Foreign Language Assistance Program

Harper is working in partnership with High School District 214 and Arlington Heights District 25.

FLAP Grant

Harper College is a participant in a Foreign Language Assistance Program (FLAP) Grant awarded by the U.S. Department of Education. Partnering with High School District #214 and Arlington Heights District #25, Harper will offer college level Mandarin Chinese courses designed as the final steps of a fully articulated 4-14 Chinese language curriculum.

Program Overview

The Foreign Language Assistance Program, also known as FLAP, holds the distinction as the only federally funded program that exclusively targets foreign language instruction in elementary and high schools.

This program provides grants to establish, improve, or expand innovative foreign language programs for elementary and secondary school students. In awarding grants under this program, the Secretary of Education supports projects that: (a) show the promise of being continued beyond their project period and (b) demonstrate approaches that can be disseminated and duplicated by other local educational agencies.
