Quick Response (QR) codes are 2D bar codes offering scannable access through a smartphone that leads to a URL web address. Scan codes are easy to use and link directly to event RSVPs, Harper apps, Areas of Interest pages, email sign-up pages, career fair info, etc.

Use them on banners, posters, flyers, brochures, digital materials, direct mail, event programs, campus maps, outdoor media, inside elevators and other marketing materials. QR codes add to our marketing tool kit much like other contact information.

If you have a one-time need for an event or fundraiser, you can use a one-time scan code provider such as QR-Code-Generator.com.  For longer term use or for Harper College collateral in development, Marketing Services has secured a single-source provider account which has reporting analytics.

Here are guidelines that will help you make sure your QR code performs correctly and meets Harper College brand standards:

Requirements List

  1. Scan code must have an active, live link that directs user to a Harper College webpage.
  2. For best results, your code art file must be either EPS or JPEG format.  A vector file (EPS) is preferred. A JPEG file must be hi-res (high resolution). NOTE: A PNG file is not acceptable for printed materials. Low resolution QR codes often cause issues since they scan sporadically or do not read properly thus defeating your purpose.
  3. Colors: A high contrast will get the best results.  Use black or Harper Official Blue PMS288 C
    a. Limit background colors such as yellow or other pastel colors. This may result in scanning errors.
  4. Spacing: To ensure readability, you should maintain 1/8” clear space around the scan code.
  5. Size: Scan code must be minimum size of 1.25 inch.
    a. Do not stretch, distort or disproportionately adjust the art file of the scan code image; this may negatively affect the scan.
  6. Be sure to do a test on your scan code with a smartphone.

NOTE: If you are requesting a QR code for a new or existing marketing piece, please provide the webpage URL in your Marketing Request or directly to your Marketing Specialist/Project Manager.
