Harper College will be closed for Thanksgiving Break on Wednesday, Nov. 22, through Sunday, Nov. 26.

Dealing with difficult people

Difficult coworkers and customers are more than a nuisance; they can affect the bottom line. Harper College will put on an interactive workshop that teaches concrete techniques to defuse anger and avoid the behaviors that might escalate conflicts at work.

The seminar Emotional Intelligence: Dealing with Difficult People will take place from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. Friday, February 28, at the Wojcik Conference Center on the College’s main campus, 1200 W. Algonquin Road in Palatine.

The session is the latest in Harper’s 2013-2014 Leadership Seminars series on topics ranging from coaching others for peak performance to delegating with purpose.

“A key differentiator for successful businesses is effective leadership,” said Maria Coons, who oversees Harper College for Business. “Research has proven this. The reason is simple: Leaders set the tone and drive creativity and motivation. Interestingly, leadership skills can be learned. These workshops are designed to help leaders at all levels learn new things and develop strategies that ultimately help their businesses thrive and succeed.”

The cost is $149 if registering by February 19. For more information or a complete list of upcoming seminar topics, call 847.925.6640 or visit harpercollege.biz.
