Harper College for Business launches series of workshops

Difficult people at work come in many varieties, and no workplace is without them. It's up to business leaders to use skill and emotional intelligence to manage the challenges they can create.

Harper College will offer an interactive workshop that teaches concrete techniques to defuse anger and avoid behaviors or language that may escalate conflicts at work.

The "Emotional Intelligence: Dealing with Difficult People" seminar takes place from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 23, at the Wojcik Conference Center on the College's main campus, 1200 W. Algonquin Road in Palatine.

The session kicks off the spring 2015 series of leadership seminars put on by Harper College for Business, a collection of training and networking programs geared toward rising suburban business leaders.

Future seminars include "Finance for Non-Financial Managers" on Friday, Feb. 20; "Project Management Fundamentals" on Thursday, March 12; "Communicating for Leadership Success" on Thursday, April 23; and "Motivating Others" on Friday, May 8.

Each leadership seminar will help participants meet the demands of their current positions, increase productivity, acquire or refine specific skills and learn and share best practices. Sessions are facilitated by a consultant through Harper College for Business, which provides training, development, tuition help, small business support and more for employers throughout the Northwest suburbs.

"This series is intended to help local leaders learn best practices, meet the demands of their current positions and increase productivity so they can get their business where it needs to go," said Maria Coons, Vice President of Workforce and Strategic Alliances at Harper.
