Harper College will be closed for Thanksgiving Break on Wednesday, Nov. 22, through Sunday, Nov. 26.

Five new Distinguished Alumni to be inducted

October 27, 2015

Harper College will hold its 2015 Distinguished Alumni Awards, an annual honor saluting former students for outstanding career and community achievements.

The initiative was launched in 2008 as part of Harper's 40th anniversary celebration. Since then, 43 recipients representing a variety of educational journeys and professional paths have been honored. Honorees have included mayors, a fire chief, a National Geographic-honored geoarchaeologist, a former NFL player, an Emmy-nominated screenwriter, entrepreneurs and accomplished health care workers.

The event takes place from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28, in the Wojcik Conference Center. It will begin with a reception followed by the awards ceremony.

New Distinguished Alumni will return to campus to be a guest speaker or participate in an activity designed to engage students. Five honorees will be recognized:

Dr. Vladimir Goncharoff, Lecturer in the University of Illinois-Chicago Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering

Richard Parlier, Owner of First Point Mechanical Services, LLC

Joseph Quinn, Vice President and Regional Sales Manager at BMO Harris Bank

Renee Spacapan, Nurse Practitioner at the Nephrology Associates of Northern Illinois

Laurie Turpin-Soderholm, Senior Project Manager at Global Access Meetings

“Harper has been a springboard for so many alumni who go on to accomplish great things in their professions and their communities,” said Fredia Martin, Director of Alumni Relations and Special Events. “This is an opportunity to recognize the alumni who are now inspiring others.”
