Harper Symphony Orchestra performance to celebrate nation’s beauty

The Harper Symphony Orchestra will celebrate the beauty of the United States at its upcoming performance, "Scenes of America."

Under the direction of maestro Brian Groner, the concert will take place at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 10, at the Performing Arts Center on the College's main campus, 1200 W. Algonquin Road in Palatine.

The orchestra will perform selections from “West Side Story” and “Our Town,” along with “Sunrise” from Grand Canyon Suite and Rocky Mountain Suite.

Groner has been the conductor of the Harper Symphony Orchestra since 2006. He is also music director of the Fox Valley Symphony in Wisconsin and the conductor of the String Orchestra at Northeastern Illinois University.

An active guest conductor, he has appeared on the podium for many notable ensembles including The San Diego Symphony, The Czech National Symphony Orchestra (Prague), The Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra (China), The International Contemporary Ensemble and The Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra. He has toured as conductor for The Moscow Classical Ballet.

His concerts have been broadcast via satellite by National Public Radio in more than 50 major radio markets across the nation. He has also conducted the world premieres of 20-plus substantial new American compositions.
