The Harper College Educational Foundation’s recent Giving Tuesday effort was a big success, with 55 donors giving a total of $27,015 to support students.

Giving Tuesday, a global day of giving fueled by the power of social media and collaboration, takes place the Tuesday after Thanksgiving and kicks off the charitable season when many focus on their holiday and end-of-year giving.

The Foundation set out to raise $4,172 – or the cost of one year of tuition and fees for one Harper student. In the end, Harper surpassed its goal more than six-fold. Donors Derrick and Joni Hamilton’s generous matching gift of $5,000 helped encourage others in the community to give.

Harper’s Giving Tuesday initiative also drew nine new donors compared to last year, when the amount received totaled about $3,800.

“The generosity of our donors is helping Harper to support student success in increasingly innovative and enriching ways,” said Laura Brown. “We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who made a gift and participated in this global day of philanthropy.”
