Kinesiology and Health Education
The scientific study of human movement.
The Kinesiology and Health Education Department offers a variety of courses for students who plan to transfer to a four year college or university to pursue a Bachelor's degree in the field of Kinesiology, Health Education, Physical Education or related fields.
The courses are also open to non-majors for personal enrichment. The curriculum includes health and wellness courses, physical education major courses, coaching and personal trainer preparation courses, as well as courses in sport techniques, fitness, mind/body, martial arts, individual and team sports and dance.
Kinesiology is the study of human movement whether it is through scientific aspects, learning to teach technical and tactical skills in sport, or improving your own level of physical fitness through courses in fitness, individual and team sports, martial arts and dance. The Kinesiology Program at Harper can prepare you to move toward a Bachelor’s degree, give you the knowledge to become certified as a personal trainer or coach or provide you with many options to improve your own health.

The Health Education program provides students with courses that place an emphasis on making healthy lifestyle choices. Health education, and its related fields, are giving way to a growing variety of career opportunities. This transfer program provides students with courses that will help prepare them to transfer to four-year programs in health education, public health, community health, or related programs.

Public Health promotes and protects the health of people at the communities where they live, learn, work, and play.
Several courses are offered to prepare those interested in a coaching career or becoming certified to coach. The Kinesiology program has a partnership with the American Sport Education Program (ASEP) which allows certain courses to fulfill the clinic/course requirements for taking the Coaching Principles and Sport First Aid certification exams through ASEP. These courses are also transferable to most 4-year colleges and universities.

A series of courses are offered for those interested in becoming a Certified Personal Trainer. The Department has a partnership with the American Council on Exercise (ACE) which grants enrolled students discounts on textbooks, preparation materials and the ACE Personal Trainer Certification exam fees. Personal Training Preparation Courses are also transferable to most 4 year colleges and universities.

Roy G. Kearns Memorial Scholarship is vailable to full-time Kinesiology (Kinesiology, Athletic Training, Sports Medicine, Coaching, Exercise Physiology) and/or Health Education students.
