Massage Therapy Introductory Course
NOTE: If proposed program changes are approved, the Introduction to Massage Therapy
course would no longer be required nor offered. Instead a required Program Orientation would be the prerequisite
to the program. See the Program Change page of this site for more information. If the proposed changes are not approved
or become no longer necessary, the Introduction to Massage Therapy course would remain
in the program as a prerequisite.
Course description
MTP 100: Introduction to Massage Therapy provides a general program overview and historical
development of massage therapy. Introduces students to the benefits of massage therapy
and its relationship to our current health care system, alternative health care systems
and healing practices from other cultures. Introduces the systems of the body, basic
effects of stress on the body and different types of massage modalities. Introduces
students to basic anatomical terms, regions of the body, and an anatomy palpation
demonstration and practice. Prerequisite: You must be 18 years old to register for this course.
In order to register for the Introduction course, students must enroll as a Harper
College credit-course student, complete the Massage Therapy Program Application form
and provide a copy of a photo ID to the program coordinator to verify the date of
birth. Then prior to starting classes in the main program, there are three additional
program admissions pieces that must be completed. When time permits, students are
strongly encouraged to complete all the program admissions steps prior to the Intro course. Please see the Massage Therapy Admissions page for required steps for admission to the program.

- MTP 100 - Summer 2024 (ideal for those entering the Full-time Day class starting August 26, 2024)
- July, 2024 - Mon-Thurs (Jul 15-18) with class from 8:30am-12:20pm*
- Students who successfully complete this week-long course offering will be eligible
to begin the Massage Therapy program the week of August 26, 2024 (Class days and times
for this Intro course will mimic the Full-time program schedule that will start in
August)
- Registration for this Intro Course offering will open around the end of March 2024
for those with Conditional Program Acceptance or Full Program Acceptance. This course
is planned as a live, in-person, on-campus class. Email the program coordinator today to get started with the Program Admissions steps and be ready to claim your
seat in this course.
- MTP 100 Fall 2024 (ideal for those entering the Full-time Day class starting August 26, 2024)
- August, 2024 - Mon-Thurs (Aug 19-22) with class each day from 8:30am-12:20pm*
- Students who successfully complete this week-long course offering will be eligible
to begin the Massage Therapy program the week of August 26, 2024 (Class days and times
for this Intro course will mimic the Full-time program schedule that starts in August)
- Registration for this Intro Course offering will open around the end of March 2024

to begin the Massage Therapy program in January 2025 (Class days and times for this
Intro course will mimic the Part-time program schedule that will start in January)
- Registration for this Intro Course offering is now open to those with at Conditional
Program Acceptance or Full Program Acceptance. This course is planned as a live, in-person,
on-campus class. Email the program coordinator today to get started with the Program Admissions steps and be able to claim your
seat in this course.
