Kinesiology

Workout

The scientific study of human movement.

Kinesiology is the study of human movement whether it is through scientific aspects, learning to teach technical and tactical skills in sport, or improving your own level of physical fitness through courses in fitness, individual and team sports, martial arts and dance.

Kinesiology integrates the fields of human anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, psychology, and sociology, with sport and fitness.

The Kinesiology Program at Harper can prepare you to move toward a bachelor’s degree, give you the knowledge to become certified as a personal trainer or coach or provide you with many options to improve your own health.

This degree path offers an excellent opportunity for students looking to satisfy the admission requirements into the field of applied health sciences including physical therapy and occupational therapy.

Transfer options

Sample Transfer Plans help you prepare to transfer into a particular major at the baccalaureate level.

Transfer school options include:

Certification

Personal Training Certification: A series of courses are offered for those interested  in becoming a Certified Personal Trainer. The Department has a partnership with the American Council on Exercise (ACE) which grants enrolled students discounts on textbooks, preparation materials and the ACE Personal Trainer Certification exam fees. Personal Training Preparation Courses are also transferable to most four-year colleges and universities.

Coaching Certification: Several courses are offered to prepare those interested in a coaching career or becoming certified to coach. The Kinesiology program has a partnership with the American Sport Education Program (ASEP) which allows certain courses to fulfill the clinic/course requirements for taking the Coaching Principles and Sport First Aid certification exams through ASEP. These courses are also transferable to most four-year colleges and universities.
