THE WORLD PEN: AN AURAL WRITING ADVENTURE (LLA 0353): Write creatively inspired by sounds of music from around the globe. You will express your impressions as you listen to various world music. Learn techniques to improve writing creativity and gain a new understanding of how music can transport us. Spend one class watching the music being created by live artists.

THE WRITING WITH MUSIC EXPERIENCE (LLA 0042): Get ready to let music inspire your writing in this interactive experience! Using music to prompt specific emotions (joy, sorrow, disorder), you will mindfully listen to the music and then immediately write about it to capture your sensations. Whether you are an experienced writer or someone looking to generate new material, this workshop is sure to help you find inspiration in unexpected places. Let the rhythm flow through you. Live & Recorded Music performance to inspire writers during class.

WRITING INSPIRED BY ART (LLA 0119): Write creatively, inspired by the masterpieces of Impressionism! You will express your impressions as you experience them, transcending rules of grammar, logic and order. You will be amazed at the writing that flows from your pen. Learn techniques to improve writing creativity and gain a new understanding of Impressionism. Featured Impressionists include Munch, Monet, Pissarro, Seurat, van Gogh, Degas, and Renoir. Develop writing confidence and techniques to overcome writer’s block. In this cross-disciplinary course, you will do writing exercises inspired by each featured artist.

WRITING INSPIRED BY ART SERIES (LLI 6079): Take the full tour with this series, which includes: Writing Inspired by Impressionism: Monet and Pissarro; Writing Inspired by Impressionism: Seurat and van Gogh; Writing Inspired by the Muse d’Orsay and More; and Art Institute of Chicago: A Writing Tour. Fees include museum admission to the Art Institute of Chicago on 5/3. Members Only.

WRITING INSPIRED BY IMPRESSIONISM: SEURAT AND VAN GOGH (LLI 6081): Write creatively, inspired by the masterpieces of Impressionist artists Georges Seurat and Vincent van Gogh. After viewing works and learning about the artists’ stories, instructor Laura Ehrke will guide you through creative and fun writing exercises relevant to their works. You will be amazed at the writing that flows from your pen. Not only will you enjoy viewing beautiful works of art from the Impressionism period, you’ll learn techniques to improve your writing creativity and gain new perspectives on the artists. Bring paper and your favorite pen or pencil to collect your written masterpieces. Lifelong Learning (55+) course.

WRITING INSPIRED BY MUSEE D’ORSAY AND MORE (LLI 6082): Travel virtually to some of the world’s best collections of Impressionist masterpieces. Our online visits to sites such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, Musee d’Orsay in Paris, National Gallery in London, and Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam will include virtual tours and curators’ videos. Gain insights into your favorite paintings from the galleries that house them. Instructor Laura Ehrke will guide you in expressing your impressions in fun, creative writing exercises. Bring paper and your favorite pen or pencil to collect your written masterpieces. Lifelong Learning (55+) course.

ART INSTITUTE OF CHICAGO: A WRITING TOUR (LLI 6083): Join us as we tour the world-renowned Impressionism collection at the Art Institute of Chicago. We will start by looking at key pieces by Monet, Pissarro, Seurat, Van Gogh, and other masters. Choose your favorites to complete some guided creative writing exercises. You’ll be amazed at what this in-person experience will inspire! Laura Ehrke will meet you at the Museum (Monroe St entrance) at 12:30 p.m. You are responsible for arranging your own transportation. After our class, you are free to leave or explore the museum on your own. Details will be e-mailed to registered students by 4/26. Fees include museum admission. Lifelong Learning (55+) course.
