Selected by TIME Magazine as one of the Environmental Heroes of the 20th century, Paul Watson is an international marine conservationist and environmentalist with four decades of experience in defending marine life on the high seas. As an early cofounder of Greenpeace, Watson broke with the group to found the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, pursuing a more aggressive, sometimes controversial, but often praised approach to fighting illegal shaling, seal slaughter and shark poaching. Many may recognize Watson as Captain Watson, star of Animal Planet's popular Whale Wars series, which follows Watson and his feisty crew aboard the Steve Irwin as they patrol the Arctic waters intercepting whaling convoys and trying to spoil the hunt.
