Accessibility on Campus
Physical Access of the Campus
Accessibility Campus Map .PDF
Periodic reviews are done on campus to evaluate accessibility and to identify barriers, so that project requests and budget requests can be submitted for future action. Every five years, a more thorough review is done through convening a task force made up of administrators, faculty and staff who volunteer to do a more thorough “walk-about” on campus.
In the 2005—2006 academic year, a task force on physical accessibility did an evaluation of the campus and came up with a series of recommended projects and action plans.
Consult the Accessibility Campus Map .PDF for details on features such as accessible parking, exterior auto door openers and level pathways to buildings. For more specific accessibility information about classrooms, theater space and student gathering areas contact the ADS office in Building D, Room 119 or call at 847-925-6266.
Accessible Parking
Lots are available at various locations on
campus and are reserved for vehicles displaying handicap license plates
or valid handicap parking cards. See the Accessibility Campus Map .PDF
Rest Rooms
Accessible bathrooms are clearly marked and are either in the building or in close proximity.
Communication Access of the Campus
Periodic reviews of the electronic accessibility of communication systems on campus are done, so that project and budget requests can be submitted for future action. The last review was in 2005—2006.
The College will respond to requests from students and community members who need accommodations for attendance at open events, providing sign language interpreters, captioning, use of assistive listening systems or other forms of access. Requests should be made to Access and Disability Services, Building D, Room 119 or by calling 847-925-6266.

Web and Electronic Accessibility on Campus
A task force was organized in Spring 2007 to review the status of web accessibility on campus and to respond to the Illinois Board of Higher Education requirement for reporting on web accessibility. The task force will assist in maintaining accurate information on Harper College’s internal and external web sites which pertain to electronic and web accessibility.
The Access and Disability Services department provides document conversion (e-text) service to students who need print materials in alternate format. Students in online courses or in courses supported by Blackboard, should contact the ADS department to discuss how materials can be made accessible.
Students who experience any difficulty accessing or using web resources, i.e. the student portal, College web sites, etc. should seek assistance from the ADS department.
