The Mission of ADS
“to create a comprehensively accessible environment and to empower students to become actively involved in all aspects of campus life.”
The ADS department is responsible for providing legally mandated access and accommodations to any student that registers with ADS and provides documentation about the functional impact of their disability – physical or learning. This department ensures compliance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990. All medical and psychological information is kept confidential. Legally mandated access and accommodations may include support such as:

Sign language interpreters or captioning services

Modifications in testing procedures, such as extended time or a quiet room

Note-taking assistance

Use of specialized technology

Relocation of classes to more accessible spaces or use of specialized furniture in a classroom

Modifications in procedures such as priority registration or reduced course loads

Conversion of materials into other formats such as Braille, large print or audio
New Students
New students are interviewed by a staff member and then an individualized accommodation plan is developed based on the students needs. During his/her advising session, each student will create an educational/career plan that will help him/her select an academic program or plan of study that fits his/her interests and goals.
