Forty-six years ago I was a student at Harper College studying Sociology where I met another student, Mike Gaetz. We dated for a few years but eventually went in different directions as I went on to study Accounting at a 4-year university. In 2014, Mike contacted me and we picked up right where we left off and began dating shortly after.
On Saturday, May 28th, 2016 Mike drove me to Harper, and we walked into the Student Activity Center. Much had changed but we were able to find the table downstairs where we first met in 1970. He proceeded to drop to his knee and propose. We are now engaged and hope to be married in 2017, 47 years after we first met at Harper College. We actually had our picture taken that day by Elizabeth, an ESL teacher at Harper and shared our story with her.
It was such a special day to come back to Harper after all these years and to celebrate this special moment in our lives. Thank you, Harper College, for allowing us to share this event in your doors.
