Post 9/11 G.I. Bill (Chapter 33)

The post 9/11 GI Bill is for anyone with active duty service after September 11, 2001. Depending on your length of service you may be eligible for different levels of payments. The benefit consists of three main items:

  1. Tuition and Fees: Up to 100% of applicable tuition and fees charged on a semester basis. This money is paid directly to the school.
  2. Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH):  BAH rates are set at the E-5 plus dependents level of the zip code of the school you are attending, and the funds are direct deposited into your account on the first of each month. The current rate for Harper College is $1566 per month. BAH for other areas are listed here.
  3. Book Stipend: Each student is authorized up to $1000 per year for books. The VA will pay you $41.67 per credit hour you register for. These funds are also direct deposited into your account.

For more detailed information on this benefit and for eligibility requirements please refer to the VA’s website at: www.gibill.va.gov.
