The National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) and the Illinois Manufacturers' Association (IMA) awarded a joint $50,000 endowment to fund Harper College scholarships in memory of manufacturing leader Ron Bullock, former CEO of Bison Gear. Harper named its CNC lab the Ron Bullock Memorial CNC Laboratory.

A rain delay and soggy conditions couldn’t dampen the spirits of the record number of graduates who crossed the stage at Harper College’s 49th annual Commencement Ceremony.

In 2009, Harper set a goal to produce 10,604 additional degrees and certificates by 2020 - its share of the 5 million additional college graduates President Barack Obama challenged America to produce. On Saturday, Harper will surpass that goal - three years early.

The 2016-2017 Male and Female Athletes of the Year were announced at the Annual Student Involvement Awards Night.  Doug Spiwak, Director of Athletics and Fitness presented the awards to Kayle Mayer  (Volleyball) and Laith Kanan (Men's Track and Field). Kayla was on hand to receive the award. Laith was competing for the University of Illinois-Chicago track team and was not able to attend.

Gaby Fugle (Wauconda) has chosen to attend Harper College to play volleyball for the Hawks.  Besides following in the path of All-American Kayla Mayer (/Wauconda) (Wauconda), Harper had several features that drew her attention.  She wanted to stay local for two years and she knew Coach Vilsoet through Sky High.  Additionally, she liked that Harper had a big and beautiful campus.  She did not want to go to a place where it felt like "just a bigger high school."  Gaby felt like Harper would give her a true college experience.  Gaby loves the sport of volleyball and wants to be able to teach English in the middle school. Gaby is involved in volleyball camps and likes working with kids. Coach Vilsoet commented  that " Gabby is very versatile and jumps well; she's an outside hitter and primary passer by trade, but started at middle hitter on the Wauconda High School team.  Her improvement from when I first saw her play has been immense."   Fugle has  two older brothers that are currently serving in the Air Force.
