Tax Information: IRS Form 1098-T

2012 1098-T are now available online

Credit Students

All students enrolled in credit classes during 2012 have been sent the IRS Form 1098-T as stated by the IRS guidelines. The IRS Form 1098-T is mailed to the student only.

Harper College will mail the IRS Form 1098-T to the address on record as of January 4, 2013.

Harper College uses your Social Security number to file the 1098-t only. Please update your records with the Registrar's Office to include your Social Security number, if you have not provided it in the past, or to change your address at 847.925.6500.

Harper College has chosen the payments received method when computing the 1098-T. Therefore the amount in Box 1 is calculated on payments made between January 1, 2012 and December 31, 2012 for the Spring 2012, Summer 2012, Fall 2012 and Spring 2013 terms. It includes any 3rd party and financial aid payments.

You can give Harper College consent to receive the IRS Form 1098-T electronically. No form will be mailed if you give your consent. To do so, log into your MyHarper Student Portal, go in your "My Payments" tab and then click the "Reprint 1098-T" link. Log into the site and choose "Online Consent." Read the consent form and choose "Accept Consent."

Continuing Education Non-Credit Students

The IRS does not require the Form 1098-T to be sent to students for Continuing Education non-credit classes. Please read IRS Publication 970 about the possibility of using the Lifetime Learning Credit for these types of classes. You may use copies of your receipts in those instances.
